- Supervises in on-the-job training for pay in approved business, industrial and service firms, coordinated by the college's cooperative education office. - Requires completion of a project or research report related to the student's occupational objectives and a study of approaches to the selection and pursuit of career opportunities in the field.May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.

1-5 credits - PBS 130 - Introduction to Public Safety Communications
- Examines the fundamentals of public safety communications including equipment and operations of a public safety communications center in addition to record keeping, effective communication in emergency situations, use of emergency telecommunications equipment and standard telecommunication operating procedures.Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 131 - Emergency Medical Dispatch
- Prepares students to efficiently triage injuries and/or illnesses using information provided by callers to an emergency dispatcher and to competently provide pre-arrival instructions to those in need of emergency medical services.Lecture 1 credit. Total 1 hour per week.
1 credits - PBS 133 - Advanced Public Safety Communications
- Examines advanced knowledge in public safety communications including equipment and operations of a public safety communications center in addition to record keeping, effective communication in emergency situations, and use of emergency telecommunications equipment. Covers ethics and the role of the telecommunicator, relationship to field personnel, interpersonal skills in addition to mental and physical health.Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 136 - Public Safety Communications Laboratory
- Develops basic and advanced skills necessary to manage emergency and non-emergency calls at a 9-1-1 dispatch center. Prepares students to solicit critical information, research information, use various telecommunications information databases and computer systems, communicate via telephone, radio and face-to-face, relay pertinent information and provide emergency medical dispatch information within simulated scenarios and in a simulated high-stress environment.Laboratory 4 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
1 credits - PBS 138 - Public Safety Communications Practicum
- Provides experience of observing a certified Public Safety Telecommunicator while on-shift. Offers student with the opportunity to discuss observations and ask questions of an experienced professional.Laboratory 8 hours. Total 8 hours per week.
2 credits - PBS 140 - Principles of Emergency Management
- Teaches a framework intended to guide emergency planners through the process of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Presents the concepts of emergency management, its integration of systems, identification of hazards and their analyses as well as the nature of local government emergency planning.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 150 - Weapons of Mass Destruction Response and Recovery
- Teaches techniques to prepare for and improve the ability to manage and respond to mass casualty terrorism incidents caused by weapons of mass destruction (WMD), including suicide bombers and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons (CBRN). Presents signs of WMD attacks, appropriate response to each attack, emergency information, and survival planning.Lecture 3 hours per week.

- Examines ethical issues related to government service. Reviews ethical principals, standards, codes of conduct and their application, and a number of substantive issues of ethical responsibilities relevant to public sector employees.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 220 - Disaster Response and Recovery
- Introduces basic concepts and operational procedures for responding to major disasters. Addresses federal, state and local roles and responsibilities in major disaster recovery work with an emphasis on government coordination and solution to problems frequently arising in recover situations.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 240 - Constitutional Law
- Surveys state and federal constitutional provisions pertinent to the relations between state and federal governments. Examines separation of powers, delegation of powers, interstate relations, commerce powers, civil rights, and liberties. Gives consideration to the establishment and interpretation of federal, state, and local regulations which implement public policy.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 265 - Interviewing
- Analyzes the principles and techniques of interviewing in various organizational settings. Examines reliability and validity of information gained through information interviewing, employment and selection interviewing, performance appraisal and disciplinary interviewing, as well as counseling interviewing.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - PBS 266 - Group Leadership
- Focuses on the dynamics of individual behavior and group processes. Examines the role of group members decision making, use of power, creativity and controversy, problem solving, and group goals.Lecture 3 hours per week.
